Where Words Live - more of the Extraordinary September 12th, 6:30-8:15 p.m.
Come hear haiku, tanka, and other nature poetry as we wander through Rogers Memorial Park, filling our senses with the images, scents, and sounds of the gardens, trees, and water. We'll share our impressions and try to capture a sense of mono-no-a-wabi, which loosely translates into "ahness."
We'll use prompts from poems and images from the park to create our own short form poems. Some calligraphy pens/brushes will be provided for those wishing to add a little flair to their words on cardstock.
Sponsored by Bolton Landing, NY LIbrary. Call 518-644-2233 to register.
THE LANGUAGE OF WONDER (at Wiawaka) August 8th, 2023
Nothing conveys possibility and wonder like the beings that grow in the forest. We’ll explore a poem or two and a bit of science celebrating the amazing lives and language of trees, and find our way to the ideas and images that most speak to us. We'll wander Wiawaka's hemlock and pine forest and stream, where you’ll be guided into what images, scents, and sounds carry genuine promise and power for you. We'll use poetry and forest prompts to help you turn your images into your own written expression of wonder. No experience with poetry needed. Bring a pen and small notebook!
Tuesday, August 8th, 2023, 10a.m. - 12noon.
Facilitated by Susan Jefts, M.S., published poet, editor, and educator.

The Language of Wonder (at the Caldwell Library and Shepard Park)
Nothing conveys possibility and wonder like the beings that grow in spring. We’ll explore a poem or two and a bit of science celebrating the amazing lives of trees, and find our way to the ideas and images that most speak to us. If weather allows, we’ll visit Shepard Park to sit with the majestic maples where you’ll be guided into what images, scents, and sounds carry genuine promise and power for you. You’ll have a chance to turn your images into your own written expression of wonder. No experience with poetry needed. Bring a pen and small notebook!
A little too abstract, a little too wise,
It is time for us to kiss the earth again,
It is time to let the leaves rain from the skies,
Let the rich life run to the roots again. (Robinson Jeffers)
